And the SYC Races Continue…In the Rain!

Sunday, Sep 13 – Race 3

Four boats ventured out on Sunday, Sep 13 with wind variable from south to west at 0-12 knots with light and, at times, heavy showers thrown in to confuse everyone. The rain actually started as soon as the race started.  Not really a perfect day for a sail!

Port tack start. Still, the race was completed in just over an hour.

Aragorn (Skipper John Becker and crew Francis Clark & Sylvie Sabourin), Beethoven (Skipper Cory Petrie and crew Scott Smith & Jeff Ridal) and Sealestial (Skipper Paul Rodrigue and crew Manon Rodrigue, Kate Miller & Ann Marie Blinkhorn) were joined by a 4th boat R&R with skipper Robert Zwanenburg and crew Maurice Poulin.

Sylvie Lebel joined the race committee Nick Cox & Judy Pike.

The winds were variable for the entire race, good strong winds in one direction, followed by soft ineffective wind in the other. As usual the start was challenging as everyone was jockeying for the best position, with the wind building until the last trial run.

Finally, despite the constant banter between Sealestial’s skipper and Beethoven’s, it was the latter who crossed the start line first.  Apparently Skipper Cory and crew member Jeff have been practicing.

The first marker was tricky to get around with extra tacks for everyone!!

Aragorn didn’t take long to overtake Beethoven and, once again, never looked back!!

You can see the official race results on the SYC website under document archives – races.

Note from the Race Committee – Much better start today with two boats within 10 seconds of the flag and the other two just 25 seconds behind.

The 4th race is next Sunday, Sep 20.  More boats and crew are always welcome!  Please see Paul before 930am.  Skippers meeting is at 930am and the race starts at 1030am.

Don’t forget the Enduro race is next Saturday, Sep 19 and will run from 9am – 11pm.  So far we have R&R, Aragorn, Knot Normal and Sealestial.  Contact Paul at fleet-captain@stormontyachtclub.ca for more info.
